Dear Mr. Gannon:

Thank you for your recent e-mail soliciting my support for a policy
resolution to ban tanker traffic in British Columbia during the Liberal
Party of Canada (BC)'s Policy Convention last month. I apologize for
the delay in my reply.=20

I am pleased to inform you that this resolution, which I strongly
supported, was adopted by the delegates at the convention and is now
party policy.

The Conservative government maintains that no written ban exists in
British Columbia. This is simply false, former Environment Minister
David Anderson has stated on a number of occasions that a written,
concrete ban was in place when the Liberals left office in 2006. =20

Stephen Harper's reinterpretation of the wording of the ban is nothing
short of playing politics. Residents of British Columbia know that the
rivers leading into Kitimalt are very difficult to navigate, and are
populated by several species of fish that are on the verge of
disappearing from B.C. The strong possibility of an oil leak or
environmental catastrophe is not worth the risk.

I will continue to work with my caucus colleagues in the Liberal Party
to press the government to reconsider this proposal.

Once again, thank you for writing. Please feel free to contact my
office if I may be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Hon. Hedy Fry, M.P.
Vancouver Centre
